Paint for plastic
Paint for plastic comes in many shapes and forms. There are many reasons why you would want to paint plastic, painting a rainbarrel that is. Usually when you purchase your FDA approved recycled rain barrel, it'll come in either white, blue or black. You might want to paint it cause you find the standard color dull or you want it to blend in with the rest of your garden.
If you have more than one rain barrel, you might want to create a theme, do you like flowers? or do you have a favorite painter? or maybe you like animals? What ever you're hobbies are, you can express your creativity by painting your rain barrel. Remember, painting on plastic doesn't have to be boring!
You can either go ahead and let yourself loose and just paint it, or if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you might ask a family member to put their artistic talents to work. You may also go to an arts school and see if any art student would be willing to paint you a design for an affordable amount.
If you decide to paint it yourself, and don't want to go through the hassle of making a complicated design, you might just paint your rain barrel in one solid color.
Remember that you are only limited by your imagination! You can also turn this into a family activity with the kids. At the same time, you will be teaching them the importance of water conservation.
Before you go ahead and paint your barrel, you might want to clean the exterior surface of your future rain barrel.
Cleaning your rain barrel
You don't have to use any harsh chemicals to wipe clean the exterior surface of your barrel. An easy, safe and ecological way of doing this is by simply doing a 1:1 ratio mixture of vinegar and water.
Take a clean rag and soak it in the above mixture and wipe off the excess dirt and grim.
Ideally you just bought your rainbarrel, doing it this way is easier. If you already have a rainbarrel, then you will have to cover the spigots, and any area of the barrel that does not need painting like your screen mesh(filter) to keep the leaves out.
Ideal paint for plastic
The ideal paint for painting on plastic and getting a nice paint job on your rain barrel would be to use kryolan fusion paint. It will make your job of painting on plastic a whole lot easier.
